I have been watching a commercial in Hindu where a man is standing on a street corner with boxes. He stops a couple walking by and tries to sell them what is in the box. They look confused as he opens the box and a talking head is inside. He opens another and the talking head is making silly faces as it talks. The couple come to the realization he is trying to sell them replacement heads because they are about to get on a motorcycle. They say no thank you and put on helmets. A good public service announcement for those that ride motorcycles. Bangalore certainly needs this commercial because the only what to describe the motorcycle use is....UNREAL!
Some have helmets but don't wear them.
Or they wear helmets that would not help. Construction helmets seem to be the prevalent replacement. I saw one person had it duck taped it to his shoulders to hold it on.
A majority of the women ride side saddle. I have no idea how they can balance as the roads are not at all smooth. When it's raining, some of the women hold umbrella's. It feels like it's waiting to catch air like a parachute from the back of a drag car.
Most time there are more than one on a bike. I have seen four adults on a bike and the last one was carrying a package.
The most disconcerting is the families on a bike. Children as young as 3 holding onto the adult as they sit on the back of bike because I younger child is in front or the driver is holding a package. Drivers using one hand only because they are holding a new born in the other. If it is a family of four, usually the oldest is in the front, then the driver, the youngest child is sandwiched between the two adults. I saw one child fast asleep that way.
Good thing they really pay attention to the road while on the motorcycles or it could be really dangerous! ;)
