The Agra Fort is located about 2.5 km from the Taj Mahal. It is described as a walled city and is still used by the India military.
It was built by the Mughal empire. It has 70 ft high double walls. The moat would be filled with crocodiles and piranha.
Shah Jahan had destroyed some of the earlier buildings inside the fort to make some of his own with marble and inlaid stonework that he enjoyed. At the end of his life, he was imprisoned in the fort by his son. He died in the tower with the marble balcony. The only view was of the Taj Mahal he had built for his wife Mumtaz.
This is Jahangir Palace inside the fort where the Shah took residence with his wives and concubine (approximate 250 women).
The women would sit in the little alcoves and watch the dancing below as a way of learning the dances.
